Collect & Stitch : Stitch with Found and Gathered Materials with Alice Fox, 13th & 14th November 21
Alice’s process-led practice is based on recording personal experience of landscape. She works with natural fibres and gathered materials, employing natural dye techniques, print, stitch and weave in different combinations to create surfaces and structures. Alice takes an experimental approach to found items, learning about their properties, boundaries and possibilities through the making process. Alice is author of Natural Processes in Textile Art (Batsford, 2015). She lives and works in West Yorkshire.
Alice often works with found objects and gathered materials. She has worked with metal items, leaves, shells, acorns, pebbles: stitching directly into or round these objects, weaving round or attaching them to cloth.
Taking an experimental approach in this workshop, we will explore different ways to incorporate a range of found objects into textile artwork. Wrapping, couching, binding, stitching, over, under, through… Working on cloth and directly on/in to objects, you will produce a series of unique samples to take away and form a springboard for further work. Bring along some of your own collected items and see what potential they hold.
