House and Home with Anne Kelly - 30th nov & 1st dec
Anne Kelly is a textile artist, author and tutor who works with mixed media and vintage textiles inspired by nature, folk art and her travels. She has been a featured and invited artist at the Knitting and Stitching Shows in the UK and at textile events internationally. She is listed on the Crafts Council Directory.
Using a range of techniques from her recent ‘Textile Folk Art’ book she will guide you through the design and construction of a special house or home that holds meaning and significance. Considering and handling vintage, found and hand block printed textiles Anne will show you how to put together and embellish your collage. We will start by printing textures and objects for our piece after making an outline and base. Collage and applique assemblage will help you to create a recognisable shape. Selecting complimentary pieces of embellished, previously printed or stitched elements to provide detail and texture is a satisfying element of the process. Anne is keen that you look through your ‘stash’ for forgotten treasures and unused samples to add to the materials we have available at Hope and Elvis and you will be sent a list of suggestions before the course begins. Hand and machine stitching are encouraged to complete your design, and you will leave the course with a piece that you will be keen to finish!
