‘Emily is a textile Artist living in the Midlands. She mixes contemporary hand embroidery and mixed media methods to create one off wall pieces and landscapes’
Emily studied at Leeds College of Art and Design between 2006 and 2008, which resulted in a passion for Photography, Textiles and Fashion. She then attended the University of Cumbria, graduating in 2011, with a 1st Class BA Honours Degree in Contemporary Applied Arts - specialising in Ceramics, Embroidery and Printed Textiles.
Spend a creative day with textile artist Emily Notman; embrace a range of mixed media methods to create a textured whimsical wall hanging. In the morning Emily will take you through manipulating and dyeing your own fabrics, how to plan and then construct your own large panel. You will mix drawing methods such as inks, bleach and printing with found objects. Once you have a collection of beautiful one of fabrics Emily will share her methods of constructing these pieces into a landscape using stitch, wrapping, trapping and binding. Finish off with needled felted texture, contemporary hand stitch and tactile embellishments for decoration.
