Patterns From Nature with Helen Hallows 15th February 2020, bookable 26th Oct 19
Helen Hallows is a mixed media artist working in the East Midlands. Best known for her collaged landscapes, in 2017 she was a participant in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year.
Her work captures the mood of the landscape and of nature - using paint, collage and sometimes stitch to translate the shapes, colours and details of the countryside. Her work is sold in galleries, and she sells a range of limited-edition prints and cards.
Helen has been teaching workshops for the last 8 years to share her techniques and processes. A firm believer in starting with drawing and abstracting from source inspirations - Helen is a supportive tutor who wants you to develop your creative confidence and find your visual language.
Helen’s sketchbooks are rich and evocative. They combine explorations in shape, line, texture and colour. She publishes a range of season inspired sketchbooks so that you can delve into her processes of collecting, drawing and developing art and design.
A textile designer by training, Helen works with a designer’s eye - working in sequence, seeing patterns in nature and using colour palettes to develop commercially viable outcomes. Helen credits her 20 years in the creative industries to always returning to source inspirations to keep her work fresh and unique.
This is a creative playday based on patterns in nature. Using photographic resources, we will look for and abstract patterns from natural forms.
You will be guided to use shape and line to design patterns based on the original inspirations.
Using different print techniques, you will make stamps and create repeat patterns. You will be encouraged to experiment with scale and colour and to print onto different surfaces.
You will end the day with a range of samples on paper and fabric that you can use for collage work, for your sketchbook or as backgrounds to stitch into.
